Hamden Action Now's Peaceful Protest on Sunday June 7th 2020

On Sunday I attended the peaceful protest, lead by Hamden Action Now, outside of Hamden Police Headquarters. The day was filled with powerful speeches by members of our Hamden community. The crowd, wearing masks and social distancing where possible, was made up of our neighbors and friends, joining together to speak out against the systemic racism inherent in our justice system, and to plead for the lives of our black brothers and sisters.

Below are a few of the most powerful moments I was able to capture.

Rhonda Caldwell from Hamden Action Now and Pastor Jack from Spring Glen Church

Mareshah White makes an impassioned speech (with Montsho Canton) both from Hamden High Black Student Union

The sister and mother of Mubarak Soulemene, the 19 year old boy killed by a State Trooper on January 15th 2020

Religious leaders from our community kneel in a moment of silence and prayer

Meron Campbell, Mariam Khan, and Abdul Osmanu all graduating seniors from Hamden High brought an intensity and passion to the day
